Vaibhav Suryavanshi is once again in the limelight after his fiery innings for Bihar against Meghalaya. He made an explosive appearance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy see you Monday.
Opening the batting for Bihar, Suryavanshi unleashed an aggressive onslaught from the first ball. He hammered 31 runs in just 10 balls, with six boundaries and a six. This offensive approach has pushed his strike rate to an astonishing 310.
The 14-year-old was sacked early in the fifth when Dippu Sangma caught the ball safely. Bihar were chasing a target of 218. While Suryavanshi provided explosive momentum at the top, he could not build on a promising start.
Expectations were high after his splendid performances earlier in the tournament. In Bihar’s first match, he smashed 190 runs from just 84 balls as the state won by a huge difference of 397. In that innings, he reached his century in just 36 balls, the fourth fastest by an Indian in List A cricket.
Suryavanshi became the youngest batter to score a century in List A and the fastest player in the world to reach 150 runs in this format.
The youngster is expected to end his Vijay Hazare campaign prematurely. He was named in India squad for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup and will travel to South Africa for a three-match youth ODI series ahead of the tournament. In the absence of Ayush Mhatre, he is expected to captain India in this series.
Despite the early dismissal against Meghalaya, Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to be one of the most talked about young prospects in Indian cricket. Each of his appearances adds to the growing buzz around his extraordinary talent.
