Match Preview

DR Congo will look to seal its place in the African Cup of Nations the round of 16 when they face Botswana in their final Group D encounter.

After following their victory against Benin with a draw against SenegalDR Congo will secure a place in the round of 16 if they improve Benin’s result against the Lions of Teranga.

Facing a Botswana team already eliminated after losing their first two matches, DR Congo will be confident of achieving this feat.

But the Leopards also have a chance to sealing first place in the group. For this to happen, DR Congo must improve on Senegal’s result against Benin.

Even if their fate is not entirely in their hands, coach Sébastien Desabre knows that it will take complete concentration for DR Congo to have a chance of finishing the group stage at the top of the table.

“We are progressing, that’s for sure,” Desabre said after the draw against Senegal.

“We recently faced two very strong African teams, and these kinds of matches help us to continue to improve our game and our intensity.

“Today we showed that DR Congo can stand up to the best team in Africa. Now we have to stay focused for the match against Botswana and aim for first place in the group.”
