President Trump signed a proclamation to ban the trips of certain countries on Wednesday evening, citing national security risks, administration officials said in CBS News.
The ban will be targeted on specific countries, but will allow exceptions. It takes effect at 12:01 p.m. Monday.
The proclamation of Mr. Trump restricted and fully limits the entry of nationals of 12 countries: Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, said the officials.
It partly restricted the entry of people from seven countries: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.
“President Trump keeps his promise to protect Americans from dangerous foreign actors who want to come to our country and cause us damage.
Officials said the action is due to a high risk level for the United States.
Exceptions authorized under the new travel ban will be for legitimate permanent residents, adoptions, two nationals traveling on a passport of a country without restriction, visas of special Afghan immigrants, foreign nationals traveling on diplomatic visas, UN or NATO; Athletes or members of sports teams, including coaches and support staff, and athletes traveling for the World Cup, the Olympic Games or other sporting events; Immigrant visas for immediate family members, special immigrant visas for US government employees, immigrant visas for ethnic and religious minorities in Iran and other exceptions of national interest, officials said.
The announcement of the ban follows the Attack on Sunday in Boulder, ColoradoOn the walkers raising the attention for the Israelis taken hostage by Hamas.
During his first mandate, shortly after his court in January 2017, Mr. Trump sign A prohibition to travel restricting entry by most residents of seven countries: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. In March 2017, he withdrew Iraq from the list and added Chad, Venezuela and North Korea. In 2020, he added immigration restrictions on Nigeria, Eritrea, Sudan, Tanzania, Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan. Chad was then deleted from the list.
Travel prohibitions in the first term were disputed in court and were modified by the administration. The third current version of the ban was issued in the fall of 2017 and finally confirmed by the Supreme Court in the summer of 2018, the conservative judges citing the general authority of the President to restrict the entry of foreigners for national security reasons.
