Sky Sports reporter issues update on Leon Goretzka transfer links to Tottenham

Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka has been linked with a surprise move to Tottenham in recent days, sparking widespread speculation ahead of the January transfer window.

Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu made the statement over the weekend, stating that although Fenerbahce remains committed to Leon Goretzkathis is the North London club who have been in contact with the player’s agent regarding a surprise move in January.

He claimed that any decision would depend heavily on whether Bayern Munich would allow a departure.

Speculation has since grown and Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg shared what he knew about the situation.

Sky Sports provides update on Goretzka at Tottenham

According to Plettenberg, Tottenham are not actively working on a move for Goretzka in January.

The German journalist insists there is currently no indication the midfielder will leave Bayern during the winter window.

Speaking to X, he said: “Understand, despite other reports, Tottenham are not working on a transfer for Leon Goretzka in January, as also reported by @SebSB. This is clearly denied.

“At present, there is no indication that Goretzka will leave FC Bayern in January. His contract expires this summer. Vincent Kompany holds him in very high regard and greatly appreciates his performances.”

What makes his update intriguing is that according to him, Kompany holds him in very high regard and greatly appreciates his performances.

However, his role this season has been more rotating than in previous campaigns. The midfielder has not started any Champions League matches, although he has featured prominently in the Bundesliga, starting 12 of Bayern’s 15 league matches so far.

With Goretzka’s contract set to expire this summer, Bayern could potentially be faced with a major decision: risk losing him on a free transfer or consider cashing out first.

Goretzka’s time at Bayern Munich in numbers

The versatile midfielder joined the Bundesliga giants from Schalke in 2018 on a free transfer and has since made 287 appearances for the club in all competitions so far.

In those 287 games, he scored 46 goals and assisted 48 others.

Its great quality is versatility. Although he can play multiple roles, Goretzka has been most effective as a central midfielder, where he has recorded 43 goals and 40 assists in his career.

He also spent time as a defensive midfielder, contributing 11 goals and 18 assists in 79 appearances, demonstrating his ability to influence matches even from deeper positions.

Its exceptional performances have already attracted interest from Manchester United as well.

Although Plettenberg has rejected the links, a January departure cannot be completely ruled out given his contractual situation.
