Jake Paul sends message to Anthony Joshua following tragic car accident, just 10 days after fight

News broke earlier today that Anthony Joshua was involved in a car accident along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State, Nigeria. Jake Paul joined many fans in sending prayers to the two-time unified heavyweight champion of the world and those involved.

According to local reports and eyewitness accounts, the vehicle carrying Joshua – the son of Anglo-Nigerian parents – collided with a stationary truck on the highway notorious for accidents.

“AJ” was treated at hospital for minor injuries, but two people were pronounced dead at the scene. A statement from the Federal Road Safety Corps said:

“The FRSC wishes to confirm a fatal road accident that occurred today, Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

“Two people unfortunately lost their lives, one was injured, while two others escaped unhurt. Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and suffered minor injuries.”

Paul, who starred in a lucrative main event with Joshua less than two weeks ago, addressed X with a fitting message.

“Life is much more important than boxing. I pray for the lives lost, for AJ and for all those affected by today’s unfortunate accident.”

Paul and “AJ” shared just under six rounds together before the latter produced a knockout punch to end proceedings. 33 million viewers worldwide followed the event via Netflix.

Joshua was expected to begin preparations for a return in February or March, although it would be understandable if today’s events could impact those plans as he bounces back both physically and mentally.
