JD Vance reportedly planned to reunite Trump and Musk for months

Last month, President Donald Trump again named Elon Musk as an ally. patting his stomach at a White House dinner honoring Saudi Crown Prince Muhammed bin Salman. This warm gesture symbolized a thaw in relations between the two most powerful peoples in America and a new report from the Washington Post– from an anonymous source – claims the reconciliation was the culmination of months of concerted efforts by Vice President JD Vance with the help of AI and crypto czar David Sacks, who introduced Musk and Vance many years ago.

The Post report, to be clear, does not say that JD Vance and David Sacks watched the reconciliation scene from The parental trap and they cried again and again, and it would be irresponsible to assume that they did:

According to the Washington Post article, our vice president spent a lot of energy throughout the summer and fall trying to stop Elon Musk from making his political party a reality. The article’s sources also claim that Musk was one of the people who lobbied for Trump to make him vice president.

You will remember that Trump and Musk slowly separated, with Musk referring to Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” as “a disgusting abomination” on June 3, then publication and deletion a statement that Trump was in the Epstein files four days later. Then he claimed having founded the America Party around the same time as this Epstein post. A fairly useful analysis at the time suggested that Musk was threading a delicate needle, angry at the bill cutting the electric vehicle tax credits he had benefited from as CEO of Tesla, while also acting as America’s top budget slasher. It stands to reason that cognitive dissonance could have broken his brain, but we can only guess exactly why things went off the rails.

Moreover, in December, Musk changed his approach on the national debt, saying the only things that can fix it are robots and AI. David Sacks said something very similar on his podcast in May.

In the Post article — which, again, came from anonymous insiders — Vance attempted to appeal to Musk directly, then made mini-calls to shut down Musk’s allies. In doing so, he would have responded to a major request from Musk: to restore Jared Isaacman, the Billionaire CEO of payment processing company closely affiliated with SpaceXas a candidate to head NASA. Trump had withdrawn Isaacman’s nomination amid his feud with Musk, and the timing made it seem like it was done out of malice. During his proposed reconciliation with Musk, Vance apparently spoke with the Senate Commerce Committee to ensure the nomination process would go smoothly.

Vance began “making the connection” with Susie Wiles, Trump’s chief of staff, according to the report. Sacks’ campaign with Musk apparently resulted in him telling Musk that their public fight was a bad thing for the country.

Vance was “working the phones furiously” during this process, in the words of Post reporters Elizabeth Dwoskin, Natalie Allison and Faiz Siddiqui.

The pressure worked and Musk took down the America Party, according to The Post. The November belly tap indicates that the two are ready to be seen together in public again. However, a Post source rather ominously added that Musk “kind of enjoys that kingmaker role,” and that part of that role is “making sure everyone in the world knows you’re the king.”

So maybe we should expect another breakup soon.

The Washington Post did not hear back from Elon Musk when seeking comment. Vance and Sacks refused. A White House spokesperson told them: “President Trump is committed to reducing waste, fraud, and abuse in our bloated government, and the administration is committed to delivering on that commitment for the American people.” »
