Beverly Hills, 90210 Alumnus Ian Ziering Charged With Battery, Assault

Ian Ziering faces battery and assault charges two years after an alleged road rage incident.

Ziering, 61, is the target of a civil suit filed in Los Angeles County by Jacob Hernandez, People reported on Monday, December 29. According to the media, Hernandez claims that the Beverly Hills, 90210 a former student verbally and physically assaulted him in an incident on New Year’s Eve 2023.

In his complaint, Hernandez accused Ziering of battery, assault, malicious prosecution, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

Hernandez, then 20, remembers that he and a friend encountered Ziering while riding a motorcycle on a busy Los Angeles street. They allegedly attempted to change lanes, stopping in front of a Mercedes-Benz that was not moving. Hernandez claimed he “is not obstructing traffic in any way, especially not the Mercedes” due to cars stuck in traffic.

By Peopleciting court documents, Ziering “suddenly got out” of the Mercedes and yelled at Hernandez, who did not respond, and allegedly pushed him, causing Hernandez to fall on top of his friend. Their bikes would have fallen into the street. Hernandez claimed he and his friend were injured and the bikes were damaged.

The complainant alleged that a “melee occurred between [Ziering] and several people who came” to his aid. He claimed that Ziering’s “actions were intentional, unnecessary and posed a foreseeable risk of physical and emotional harm, which [he] in fact, I suffered.

Hernandez also claimed Ziering leveraged his fame and media connections to spin the narrative in his favor at the time of the incident. He also accused the actor of giving law enforcement “misleading information” that led to Hernandez’s arrest in May 2024 for criminal vandalism. Hernandez was held on $50,000 bail and released. At his arraignment in June, the district attorney’s office said it was not moving forward with a criminal case against him.

Hernandez claimed he has since suffered “significant mental health issues,” extreme anxiety and panic attacks in light of the incident.

“[He] has had his name displayed negatively in the media due to the public megaphone that [Ziering] detained, lying by omission in multiple interviews, making [him] be the aggressor,” the complaint alleges, according to People. “[Hernandez] does not want to leave his home for fear of being publicly humiliated nor open his applications on social networks, because [Ziering’s] the story was made public and defamatory [Hernandez].”

He is seeking compensatory and punitive damages as well as a jury trial.

Video released by TMZ showing New Year’s Eve on Hollywood Boulevard fight between Ziering and bikerswho allegedly attacked the actor as he fled his car. In the aftermath, Los Angeles police responded to “reports of a fight that broke out after the group of bikers were driving recklessly.”

The department then began an investigation which resulted in the arrest of Hernandez and his fellow motorists. Angie Guizar several months later.

Ziering then addressed the situation via Instagramrecalling that he had “experienced an alarming incident involving a group of individuals on mini-motorbikes”.

He explained: “While I was stuck in traffic, one of these motorcyclists aggressively approached my car, which led to a disturbing confrontation. In an attempt to assess the damage, I got out of my car. This action, unfortunately, escalated into a physical altercation, which I participated in to protect myself.”

Ziering’s daughter, Penna, then 10, was in the car at the time of the fight. The father and daughter were not injured.

“I am relieved to report that my daughter and I are completely unharmed, but the incident has left me deeply concerned about the growing audacity of these groups in disrupting public safety and peace,” he said on social media. “This situation highlights a wider problem of hooliganism on our streets and the need for effective law enforcement responses to such behavior. As a citizen and parent, I find it unacceptable that groups can freely engage in this type of behavior, causing fear and chaos, while the response from the authorities appears insufficient.”
