Gunther has been in the spotlight ever since he forced John Cena to submit in his WWE retirement match. The decision to have The Champ retired in his final match divided opinion and made The Ring General public enemy number one.
In fact, he had to have extra security escort him out of Capital One Arena after his victory over Cena on December 13, as fans chased and heckled him. However, according to WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash, Gunther has no real heat.
Thanks for the submission!
On the Click THIS podcast, Nash brought up his co-host’s opinion that the former world champion has real heat.
“He doesn’t have any real heat. He’s made up heat. That’s the closest thing to heat on this show. But he doesn’t have any heat,” he said.
When the co-host questioned why this could happen despite the fact that he did Cena tapped in his last match, Nash explained his point of view. He cited the example of how Gunther was booked two weeks ago on RAW after beating The Franchise Player.
“It’s like last week when it came out, and so its music plays, and then its graphics. Then it comes out and cuts a promo, and then [Adam] Pearce comes out and tells him to get the hell out of the building. So they played his music, played his entrance, gave him a mic, [and] he cut a promo, but when he’s done, it’s time to get the hell out of the building. Because you’re a bad guy and you have heat,” he explained.
This week on RAW, the Austrian wrestler returned to the ring for the first time since Saturday night’s Main Event. He took R-Truthwho confronted the 38-year-old star on RAW for disrespecting Cena.
The match was short, with the former Intercontinental Champion dominating Truth and winning after a Sleeper Hold. It will be interesting to see how WWE capitalizes on Gunther’s heat with Road to WrestleMania right around the corner.
