These days, it’s common for footballers to bid farewell to their former clubs with a heartfelt post on social media – a quick thank you to the fans, a few warm words about the club and a nod to the future.
But when Fábio Silva left Wolves for Borussia Dortmund and Christantus Uche left Getafe to join Crystal Palace, their farewell notes sounded a little too familiar.
Silva’s Instagram post from August 29 began: “When I arrived at Wolves, I did so full of ambition, dreams and the desire to make my mark. I know I didn’t live up to expectations. But football and life are about more than numbers or moments on the pitch.”
Uche’s post, five days later?
“When I arrived at Getafe, I did so full of ambition, dreams and the desire to leave my mark. I know I didn’t live up to expectations. But football and life are not about numbers or moments on the pitch.”
From there, the wording remained the same until the last lines. Silva signed with “I will always be a fan of this club. Thank you, Wolves. With all my heart”, while Uche simply traded to Getafe.
Naturally, fans and journalists were quick to connect the dots, suggesting the messages were produced by the same AI model rather than written by the players themselves.
Whether it’s a matter of convenience or copy-paste, one thing is certain: when everyone’s goodbyes look the same, the feeling hits a little less.
