George Clooney tours his latest film, Netflix’s Jay Kellywhich features the rich, successful, beautiful, award-winning movie star as… a rich, successful, beautiful, award-winning movie star. But while the fictional character played by Clooney has a bit of melancholy and regret hidden beneath his glittery facade, the real guy seems to be having the time of his life holding up a mirror to his career. Concrete example: his extremely jovial memories on Batman and Robin In a new video interview from Variety.
It’s a film that Clooney has talked about coyly in the past; in 2020, he admitted to Howard Stern, “I’m horrible at it.” In 2021, he said he wasn’t surprised at all he was not invited to be part of the Batmen cavalcade in The lightning film because his film helped “destroy the franchise”. However, it seems that he enjoys making fun of Batman and Robin in this new discussion, particularly regarding the film’s most infamous and lasting contribution to pop culture: bats!
“I was the best Batman, and you know it, and I know it,” he jokes to the camera. “And I don’t want to hear any more bullshit. All these other guys…”
Continuing, he adds, “You know, Batman’s got nipples, man. He’s got nipples. How do you think he feeds the kids? The little bats? So I don’t want to hear any more bullshit. I was the best Batman, you know.”
Shifting to a slightly more serious tone, Clooney recalls that “It wasn’t the most fun shoot because of the costume. It was a very painful costume, and you couldn’t move. I was lying on a board and Joel Schumacher was directing you with a microphone with a giant speaker. And he was like, ‘Okay, George, here we go, and here we go, and… your parents are dead.’ You have nothing to live for. And… action!”
“And they were just supporting me and I was like, ‘I’m Batman.’ And they say: “Aaaand cut!” »And they take me down again, and they carry me on a board. And that was my experience,” he laughs. “I should have realized it wasn’t going to be a success at that point.”
He adds sadly – while clearly joking – “I’m ashamed. » You can watch the full video from Variety here.
