Assessment, results, objectives of CAN 2025

Senegal topped Group D despite having a man sent off in a comfortable win over Benin in African Cup of Nations.

Former Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly saw red in the second half for a professional foul but the result was never in doubt in Tangier.

Benin joined the group winners and DR Congo in the round of 16 despite the defeat, and will face Egypt in the round of 16 next Monday.

Senegal will face Sudan or Burkina Faso in the round of 16 – with Koulibaly’s suspension being the only bad news from their training on Tuesday evening.

Central defender Abdoulaye Seck gave Senegal the lead before goals from Habib Diallo and substitute Cherif Ndiaye sealed the victory.
