To many first season finished. As the wait for the second season of the Apple TV series begins, new fans of lead actress Rhea Seehorn discover something that fans of his work You better call Saul delighted years ago: his early career role as Magic: The Gathering witch video game tutorial.
This cheesy anecdote, which fits nicely with the character of Seehorn in To manyCarol Sturka, being a romance author, resurfaced on NPR Wait, wait… Don’t tell me! podcast. Seehorn, a guest panelist on the show, was asked about her first credit listed on IMDB. Long before You better call Saul Or To manyin 1997, she played “the guardian witch” in the film Magic: The Gathering video game.
“It was very early work, yes,” replied Seehorn. “In the original game, it was like card game software. But it came with a tutorial… explaining how to navigate the game. And me and an actor named Reggie played the role of the wizard and the witch.”
She continued. “It was such a small budget that they didn’t have any shoes, but they wanted us to look like we were wearing gladiator wizard boots or something. So we just wore tube socks with electrical tape in a crisscross fashion.”
When asked if she had ever played the game, Seehorn explained, “I was so excited that my picture was on the back that I went to Best Buy. I couldn’t afford the game at the time – it was like $45 or something. I showed them the picture on the back and I was like, ‘That’s me, oh my God!’ I did this! Would you give me a copy? “
Alas, Best Buy didn’t cough up a gift at the time, but Seehorn’s legacy lives on forever as part of Magic. The NPR interviewer even wondered how many “aging nerds” had seen her on To many and I found that it looked strangely familiar to him.
Listen to Rhea Seehorn’s full interview in the video below: The Magic the chat starts around 26 minutes.
