Texas authorities find body during search for missing teen Camila Mendoza Olmos

UPDATE — 12/30/25 at 8:05 p.m. ET: A body was found on Tuesday December 30 by police who were searching a field for any signs of a missing teenager. Camila Mendoza Olmos.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the discovery of the remains but said they have not been identified at this time. The official cause of death has also not been determined. However, the sheriff Javier Salazar shared that the recovered body was found in clothing “very similar” to what investigators believed Mendoza Olmos was wearing when he was last seen.

A gun was also discovered during the search of the field, located not far from Mendoza Olmos’ home, Salazar revealed.

A 19-year-old girl is believed to be in “imminent danger” in Texas after she disappeared on Christmas Eve.

Camila Mendoza Olmos was last seen on the morning of Wednesday, December 24, leaving her family home in Bexar County, Texas, around 6:58 a.m., according to a release from Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said ABC News that the Sheriff’s Office is working with the FBI in the search for Mendoza Olmos, as well as the Department of Homeland Security to monitor potential border crossings and international travel.

Salazar also noted that they believed Mendoza Olmos was in “imminent danger,” sharing that investigators had not ruled out kidnapping and human trafficking as potential factors in his disappearance. However, he noted that she could also have left her home of her own accord.

“We absolutely don’t want to miss anything,” Salazar said. “Ground searches are somewhat limited to a few square kilometers. We also do not exclude that this case could take us beyond the borders of the continental United States.”

The mother of Mendoza Olmos, Rosario Olmossaid she and her daughter were sleeping together at their home on Christmas Eve morning when she felt the teen get out of bed, according to KÉNÉ.

The mother said she woke up about 90 minutes later and discovered her daughter was not home, even though her car was still at the residence. Rosario tried to find her daughter by calling her cell phone, but she later discovered it was left in the bed.

“I put her in charge and went out looking for her. I thought I would find her like other times, walking, and we would come home together,” she told the outlet, adding that her daughter often started her mornings with a walk.

Although not much is known about Mendoza Olmos’ disappearance, ABC News reported that investigators believe she left the residence on foot. Salazar added that it was “very unusual” for Mendoza Olmos to leave without his phone, which he said adds considerable concern to his case. “That’s why we are working around the clock on this case,” he said.

Salazar also revealed that Mendoza Olmos had recently experienced a “mutual” breakup before his disappearance. However, authorities do not believe anything “nefarious” has happened in light of the split.

Additionally, Salazar confirmed to ABC News that Mendoza Olmos is a U.S. citizen and has not been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“It was a personal concern,” Salazar said. “So I had her checked out to make sure there were no checks, no detentions and that she’s not in a federal detention center somewhere. That’s something we needed to check out.”

He also said his friends and family are all cooperating with authorities as the investigation into her disappearance continues.

The teen was last seen wearing a sky blue and black hoodie, sky blue pajama bottoms and white shoes.
