Excerpts from an interview we did with Anthony Joshua a few months ago, it shows that he is a very philosophical young man who appreciates everything he has been gifted with in life.
Today’s tragic incident in which he lost two of his closest friends is going to take a serious turn… pic.twitter.com/OcBiot5bCw

Reflecting on purpose, mortality and the rhythm of modern life, Joshua added:
“All of this, believe it or not, is a big distraction, in my opinion. Because in the grand scheme of things, everything I seek and everything I want to possess to feel relevant on this earth is not that important, because I can’t take it with me.
All that’s guaranteed is death. All that will be important is to live to the best of our abilities. Isn’t it crazy how fast life will go? We will be old and one day all that will matter is living to the best of our ability.
He also spoke poignantly about his grandfather’s aging and how it shaped his view of what really matters:
“I went to see my grandfather the other day and he is very old now. I thought all that matters to him now is who takes care of him in his old age because he can’t really take care of himself anymore.
At one time in his life, going to work was the most important thing there was. And now, for this matter, he is nothing, because he is too old now.
Joshua, who miraculously survived the accident, remains hospitalized in Nigeria while his family, including his uncle Adedamola, express shock and hope for his recovery.
AJ responds to treatment. This is the phrase that the family keeps repeating. It’s the surest way to tell someone is holding on without pretending everything is fine.
“I feel pain all over my body,” Joshua said after the accident.
This sentence says more than any medical update.
He remains under observation at Duchess International Hospital. His condition is described as stable, but stability in times like this simply means the damage has stopped spreading. This does not mean that the damage has disappeared.
His mother, Yeta Odusanya, was allowed at his bedside. Others did not. This detail matters. Hospitals only limit access when things are serious. When rest and tranquility are part of the treatment.
“We weren’t allowed to see him,” said his uncle, David Joshua. “But according to the information provided by the authorities, he is responding well to treatment.”
That’s as much certainty as anyone has right now.
Joshua was in Nigeria less than six hours before the accident. He was traveling with two men who were more than part of his entourage. Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele were constants. Familiar faces. People who made work easier and travel bearable.
They didn’t survive.
Another relative, Adedamola Joshua, spoke about the impact of their loss.
“This incident has deeply shaken our family,” he said. “Although our son, Anthony, is alive, two of his friends, who came to celebrate with us, lost their lives.”
These words are heavy because they are clean and raw.
He added: “This is a grave tragedy, not only for our family, but also for Ogun State, Nigeria and the world at large. »
