President Donald Trump shared several screenshots mocking the Kennedy family just hours after the death of Tatiana Schlossbergthe daughter of Caroline Kennedy and granddaughter of the late president John F. Kennedy.
Trump, 79, posted various screenshots of social media posts via Social truth on Tuesday, December 30, advocating the renaming of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., to the Trump Kennedy Center. Some posts chastised the famous Kennedy family.
One post read: “The Kennedy family has LONG neglected the Kennedy Center, by the way. They don’t raise money for it. They never show up. And the only Kennedy who has been there recently is a member of Trump’s cabinet.”
“The Trumps have always been supporters of the arts. The Kennedys are supporters of the Kennedys,” another social media post read.
A few hours earlier, the Kennedy family announced the death of Tatiana, who died Tuesday at the age of 35 after being diagnosed with end-stage acute myeloid leukemiaa form of cancer, following the birth of her second child in May 2024.
“Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts,” the JFK Library Foundation shared in a statement posted Tuesday on Instagram. The message was signed by Tatiana’s husband, George Morantheir two children, Edwin, 3 years old, and Joséphine, 19 months, parents Edwin Schlossberg And Carolinesiblings Jack And Rose Schlossbergand his sister-in-law, Rory McAuliffe.
“My first thought was that my children, whose faces live permanently inside my eyelids, would not remember me,” Tatiana wrote in a statement. New Yorkers essay announcing his cancer diagnosis last month. “My son may have some memories, but he will probably start to confuse them with the pictures he sees or the stories he hears. I was never really able to take care of my daughter – I couldn’t change her diaper, bathe her or feed her, all because of the risk of infection after my transplants. I was absent for almost half of her first year of life. I don’t know who, really, she thinks I am, and if she will feel or feel will remember, when I am gone, that I am her mother.
Meanwhile, in Washington, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt wrote in a X on December 18, the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees – appointed entirely by Trump – voted “unanimously to rename the Kennedy Center to the Trump-Kennedy Center, because of the incredible work President Trump has done over the last year to save the building.”
This decision was criticized by members of the Kennedy family, including Maria ShriverJFK’s niece.
“The Kennedy Center is named after my uncle, President John F. Kennedy. It was named in his honor. He was a man who was interested in the arts, culture, education, languages and history,” she wrote in a Dec. 18 Instagram post. “He brought the arts to the White House, and he and my Aunt Jackie [Kennedy Onassis] amplified the arts, celebrated the arts, defended the arts and artists.
Shriver added: “It is incomprehensible that this sitting president would seek to rename this great memorial to President Kennedy. It is beyond crazy that he would think that adding his name in front of President Kennedy’s is acceptable. This is not the case.”
