Chase Chrisley details his horrific struggle with drug addiction


Chase Chrisley had a rough start to the year, but now things are looking much better for the reality star and her family. During an episode of his sister Sacred savannahOn the “Unlocked” podcast, the two discussed Chase’s substance use and his struggles with sobriety. Of course, this isn’t the first time Chase has opened up about his personal struggles, as he detailed some of them during an episode of his family’s comeback series, “The Chrisleys: Back To Reality.”

Chase Chrisley numbed the pain with substances

Speaking to his sister, Chase admitted to using substances, such as alcohol and other drugs, to numb the pain he felt after his parents, Todd and Julie Chrisley, reported to prison in January 2023. “I’d rather not feel anything than feel the pain that I felt,” Chase said. “Every time things got worse, I started drinking just to escape. I didn’t even realize, obviously, that I was destroying myself, but I was destroying the relationships around me.”

Elsewhere during the podcast episodeChase and his sister talked about filming their recent reality show, “Back To Reality,” in which Chase revealed some of his issues. “I looked really bad,” he said. “I really wasn’t drinking at the time. I was doing other things. I wasn’t sober.”

Chase Chrisley believed he would die while his parents were in prison

Although Chase admitted he’s in a much better place these days, the reality star said the last few years have been “really, really dark” for him. In fact, they were so dark that he thought he was “going to die.” Chase wasn’t alone in his feelings, as Savannah gave viewers an emotional look at Chase’s strained relationship with his family in the trailer for their family show.

“Chase is not Chase. He’s literally like an empty shell,” she said, adding that her struggles have made it difficult for her to connect with him. “There’s a part of me that’s so scared he’s going to die,” she said. “[It makes me not] I want to try to have a relationship with him.

Chase Chrisley says he couldn’t stop drinking

At another point in the episode, Chase told his sister that he couldn’t control his drinking. “When I started drinking, I wouldn’t stop,” he said. “Once I start, there’s just no off switch.” The 29-year-old explained that he had never had a drink or two outside. “It’s just a waste of calories. It’s no fun. It’s enough to give you a headache and make me angry. … If I drank, I drank,” he said, adding that alcohol usually brings out the “monster” in him.

Now that time has passed, Chase revealed he’s in a better place and credits therapy with getting him back on track. “I was just sobbing,” he said. “I don’t know how anyone else is going to forgive me. I don’t know how I’m going to forgive myself. Because I don’t care about anything.” He maintained his position that learning these lessons early in life kept him from dying.

Chase made headlines after being arrested in January 2025

According to a previous report from The explosionChase had a legal encounter after being arrested at a bar in Georgia. Reports indicate that Chase allegedly assaulted an employee at the Twin Peaks bar after getting into a violent altercation. The manager, Brandon Nash, claimed the reality star slapped him after he displayed “aggressive” behavior.

Chase was arrested and later released after posting $10,000 bail. In an interview after his arrest, Chase denied the allegations, saying the situation had been blown out of proportion due to his celebrity status. “I didn’t slap that guy in Atlanta,” he said. “That didn’t happen. If I was [going to] get my hands on someone, I’d get my money’s worth. I wouldn’t get a simple slap.”
