The final ICC Test Batting Rankings of the Year 2025 were finally released by the International Cricket Council on Wednesday (December 31), following a dramatic Boxing Day Test at the MCG. The results sparked a significant move in the batting and bowling rankings, with Shubman Gill making a return to the top 10 batting rankings and Harry Brook reaching his career high.
Indian Test captain Shubman Gill has found himself among the top 10 batters in the latest ICC Test batting rankings. Even though he only featured in one of the four innings during the recent home Test series against South Africa, Gill climbed to 10th place with 730 ranking points.
Right-handed batter’s rise comes after Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey fell four places and was removed from the elite list. Gill now finds himself firmly among the world’s best and continues to be India’s second highest-ranked Test batter, with only Yashasvi Jaiswal ahead of him.

Currently, Jaiswal is the 8th ranked batter in the ICC Test rankings with 750 ranking points.
However, England’s white-ball captain Harry Brook made the biggest jump to the top of the batting charts. On a difficult pitch at the MCG, Brook showed courage and patience, scoring 41 and 18* to achieve a big win.
He overtook three big stars, Kane Williamson, Travis Head and Steve Smith, in the top five. Brook ends the year as the second-ranked Test batter in the world, behind teammate Joe Root, who remained the No. 1 batter with 867 ranking points in the updated ICC Test rankings.
At the same time, Smith’s consistency struggles cost him dearly, pushing the Australian stars down to fifth place. Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel also climbed to 9th place, while Dinesh Chandimal (11th) and Rachin Ravindra (12th) also gained one place each in the latest rankings.
India’s dominance in the ICC Test Bowling rankings continued, as Jasprit Bumrah retained his position as the world’s No. 1 Test bowler with 879 ranking points. However, Australia’s Mitchell Starc and Pakistan’s Noman Ali challenge Bumrah’s position at the top of the updated ICC Test Bowling rankings.

Starc’s sensational form in the ongoing 2025-26 Ashes has propelled him to second place in the latest rankings with 843 rating points. Both Starc and Noman Ali have the same points, but the Australian star has the best chance of outbidding the Pakistani spinner and pushing Bumrah down the rankings when he turns up for the fifth and final Ashes Test in Sydney, starting January 4.
Scott Boland also gained two places and climbed to 7th place, while Gus Atkinson shared 13th place with Ravindra Jadeja after jumping four places, thanks to their Ashes show.
On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja finished the year 2025 as the world’s number one Test all-rounder with 455 rating points. England captain Ben Stokes sits third in the latest ICC Test overall rankings with 316 rating points.
Indian all-rounders Washington Sundar and Axar Patel are tied for 11th with 202 ranking points. Surprisingly, Atkinson climbed to 8th place, ranking among the top 10 all-rounders in the world in Test cricket. Cameron Green also climbed to 17th place in the rankings.
