It’s been a real rollercoaster ride since Newcastle United throughout 2025.
In March, the Magpies’ 70-year trophy drought was finally broken, when they got the better of Arne Slot’s Liverpool 2-1 in the EFL Cup final.
The Reds would eventually have a laugh at Newcastle’s expense, however, gaining the services of Alexander Isak late in the summer transfer window, in a transfer saga that seriously disrupted Eddie Howethe troops.
Howe’s men have now rounded off the year with an unconvincing 3-1 win at Burnley, as the Tyneside masses hope for a quick jump up the table. Premier League ranking for the new year, far from being satisfied with an average tenth place.
The new year also brings the excitement of the January transfer window reopening, with Newcastle looking potentially busy…
While the scoreline would suggest Newcastle were far too good for Burnley on Tuesday night, the Magpies were careless with the ball throughout, as demonstrated by Anthony Gordon giving the ball away 17 times.
Howe may well be on the lookout for new attackers; therefore, as he grows more and more impatient with the former Everton winger, with the Hoffenheim striker Bazoumana Toure rumor has it he’s on the Toon’s shopping list.
Leicester City sensation, 16 Jeremy As would also have attracted attention, but in terms of adding more exciting, first-team ready strikers, Newcastle also remain in the race to sign Manchester City star Oscar Bobb, according to the Daily mail.
Indeed, the report states that Borussia Dortmund are currently in the lead for the Nordic winger’s services, with a loan-to-buy deal worth around £30 million in the works.
However, the Black and Yellows are not the only ones interested, with Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, AFC Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Newcastle all cited as keen, as the Magpies are known to be monitoring developments.
It would be a gamble to get Bobb back, who has had an injury-disrupted period recently at the Etihad.
Still, the former Premier League title winner has shown enough quality in Manchester to be considered a worthy shot, either way, as another Lewis Hall –a style agreement is on the table.
When Hall arrived last summer for a whopping £28million, some eyebrows may have been raised initially, with the 5ft 10in defender only exposed in 12 senior appearances at Chelsea, before packing his bags for the North.
Now, however, it appears to have been an inspired move by Newcastle to pick up the dual England international for that fee, with the 21-year-old resolutely winning six duels and completing 100% of his dribbles live down the left.
Also leading the show at Old Trafford on Boxing Day, having completed seven successful dribbles, it’s fair to say that Hall has made that left-back spot his own now at St James’ Park, having been hailed as “one of the best left-backs in the Premier League” by scout Jacek Kulig last year.
Bobb will be praying he can burst into Howe’s starting XI in similar blistering fashion, if a January move is sealed, with the likes of Gordon and Harvey Barnes failing to impress again against Burnley, making it increasingly likely he can earn regular minutes, as a winger comfortable playing on the left or right channel.

THE “amazing” The striker – as he was once hailed by former footballer Jan Åge Fjørtoft – can even line up as a number ten or striker if necessary, just as Hall can move into the midfield ranks if necessary, with Bobb now up to 34 goals and 37 assists for City across various age groups.
Seven of those goal contributions came in the senior side under Guardiola, with one assist coming earlier in the season against basement side Wolverhampton Wanderers, even seeing off City-based content creator Stephen McInerney. call him a “magical” talent and the “perfect modern winger.”
Hall has left an indelible mark as a unique character himself at St James’ Park, with the likes of Dan Burn filling in on the left side pushed back, while the 21-year-old is in fine form.
Bobb will feel he has what it takes to break into Newcastle’s main lineup and do the same, with the Oslo-born threat perhaps just what the Magpies need to emerge from their late 2025 malaise.
