X tests… centrism

Whatever your opinion on X, you probably don’t think so as a platform known to promote the agreement. The company apparently tries to change this, however, and is in the early stages of which aims to stimulate publications widely suited to site users.

With Described by X as an “experimental pilot”, the application will begin to ask a small subset of users what they think of a particular article in their chronology. A screenshot shared by X shows that people can respond with a range of positive or negative opinions, like “that makes a significant point”, “it’s funny” or “that is not interested”. X will then use these responses to help him “develop an open source algorithm which could effectively identify publications appreciated by people from different angles”.

The concept is somewhat similar to the community notes, which is already trying to take into account different perspectives during the ranking of fact checks. The new program, however, does not consist in surface the verified content, but to increase the publications which are likely to be loved.

The X post on the test suggests that it has major objectives. “This new experimental feature seeks to discover ideas, ideas and opinions that brings out perspectives,” wrote society. “This can raise awareness of what resonates widely. It could motivate people to share these ideas in the first place.”

It is not clear if an open source algorithm based on user tastes can actually achieve it. A report By PEW, research shows that there is still an important partisan fracture in terms of how X is perceived and experienced by users. Overcoming this could be more difficult than stimulating some additional messages.
