Huge fire devastates historic Amsterdam church

Residents of Amsterdam were evacuated from their homes after a huge fire ravaged the historic Vondelkerk church in the city on Thursday morning.

Local media reports that the structure, which dates back to 1880, was likely hit by fireworks.

Footage shows flames spreading quickly through the building and firefighters working to put out the blaze.

The church was designed by one of the Netherlands’ most renowned architects, Pierre Cuypers, who was also responsible for the Rijksmuseum and Amsterdam Central Station.

The church was recently used as a venue for concerts and other events.
