Gervonta Davis sets his sights on a former champion for his comeback fight: ‘He’s next’

Gervonta Davis seems to have made his decision on his return to boxing.

It’s been a tough time for ‘Tank’ in 2025, with the year starting with a controversial majority decision over Lamont Roach in his WBA lightweight title defense in March.

The main talking point of the fight came when Davis intentionally knelt down and retreated to his corner claiming he had grease in his eyes, with many spectators saying this should have led to a knockdown. and Terence Crawford even thought he should have been disqualified.

An immediate rematch was then planned, but “Tank” opted for an exhibition bout with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, scheduled for November.

That never happened after Davis was named in a civil lawsuit regarding domestic allegations.and after the Baltimore man previously said he planned to retire at the end of the year, it appeared his time in a boxing ring may be up.

Davis appears to have now made a U-turn on those comments, after revealing he is targeting one man in particular for his comeback.

Taking to social media after Isaac Cruz and Roach recently fought to a majority decision, ‘Tank’ said he wants to face Cruz.

“I’ll take it then, as soon as my knee feels better.”

Davis previously fought Cruz in December 2021, earning a unanimous decision victory. Cruz is a former WBA super lightweight champion and currently holds the WBC interim crown at 140 pounds, which he retained in that draw against Roach in December.
