Liverpool boss Arne Slot said his side struggled to be creative in the goalless draw against in-form Leeds at Anfiield.
Hugo Ekitike headed wide from close range in the best moment of a bad game on New Year’s Day.
Slot was still without Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak and was left with a threadbare bench that contained several young players.
Slot said: “You’d like to start the year with a win but it was tough. I don’t think we were able to play many times during their down block.
“When we did it we didn’t have enough bodies in front of goal and at other times we were unhappy.
“If you watch football you see two ways to unlock a low block. You need to pace, you need to be quick and dominate your one-on-one situations or you need a set piece.
“We were close from a free kick thanks to Virgil [van Dijk] and close a few times with Jérémie [Frimpong] one-on-one.
“If you look at the bench there were four players aged 19 or under and a few who hadn’t really played in the Premier League. That’s what we have to accept and deal with.”
The Reds remain fourth in the Premier League after the draw, with 33 points from their opening 19 Premier League title defense games.
