New carbon tax at EU borders comes into force




The European Union’s controversial new rules on polluting industrial imports came into force on January 1, after a two-year transition period. Heavy products such as steel, aluminum and cement are now subject to a new fee levied based on the quantity of CO2 emitted during their production. China issued a statement calling the measure unfairly targeting Chinese products.
