Clooneys’ New French Citizenship Sparks ‘Double Standards’ Controversy

American actor George Clooney and his wife Amal, an Anglo-Lebanese human rights lawyer, are now French citizens, as are their children. The couple and their two sons obtained French nationality by decree. While the French Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nunez, welcomed this decision, his deputy spoke of “double standards”. Since January 1, the conditions for obtaining French nationality have been tightened, particularly in terms of linguistic and civic knowledge.
