Arteta says Arsenal are exploring ‘all options’ in January transfer window

Mikel Arteta says he is “open to all options” during the January transfer window despite Arsenal reach the halfway through the Premier League season four points clear at the top of the table.

The Gunners invested heavily over the summer, adding Eberechi Eze, Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi to an already strong squad.

But a series of injuries mean they are now considering a return to the market as they look to secure their first league title since 2003.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s trip to BournemouthArteta said: “We are open to all options. Obviously if we can find a solution in the short, medium or long term [term] this is always much better because it gives you stability and you don’t need to constantly start a process with new players. But let’s see what happens, let’s see what the news is in the next few weeks and hopefully we can try to make the right decision.

There has been speculation teenage winger Ethan Nwaneri could be loaned out after playing just once in the last 10 games. But Arteta has indicated he needs everyone at his disposal right now.

He added: “Every player is important, every player has a role, which can change throughout the season for different reasons, so everyone has to be ready to play.”

Defensive duo absent and Declan Rice a major doubt

Defenders Cristhian Mosquera and Riccardo Calafiori will miss the trip to Vitality Stadium due to injury, while England midfielder Declan Rice is also a major doubt.

Rice missed the 4-1 win over Aston Villa on Tuesday with a knee problem and, when asked if the swelling in the joint had gone down, Arteta said: “Not yet. We have another session today. Let’s see how he gets on today and how he feels, but it was too early for that game.”

Germany striker Kai Havertz returned from a serious knee injury as an unused substitute against Villa and he can now compete for a starting place with other striking options Gyokeres and Gabriel Jesus.

“It helps the team, it helps each individual [to have to fight for their place]. I think that’s what we want, to have the options, with the way we organize the matches and the calendar,” added the Arsenal boss.

“So far we haven’t had the options, so we’re looking forward to having everyone on the pitch, everyone performing and being able to change profiles and also change them during the match, to select the best players in the best conditions every time.
