Rosenior gives no guarantee on the future of Strasbourg

Liam Rosenior has offered no guarantees over his future as Strasbourg coach, despite being the favorite to replace Enzo Maresca at Chelsea.

Chelsea separated from Maresca on New Year’s Day, ending the Italian’s 18-month spell at Stamford Bridge.

Rosenior, who impressed in Strasbourg, is the big favorite to take over. The League One signings share ownership with Chelsea, with both clubs under the control of the Todd Boehly-led BlueCo consortium.

Rosenior responds to Chelsea speculation

He led Strasbourg to seventh place in his first season in charge last season. They holds the same position in the table 16 games into this year’s campaign and are through to the last 16 of the Conference League after finishing top of the league stage table.

Strasbourg visits Nice in Ligue 1 on Saturday. While Rosenior insists he is focused on the task at hand in Strasbourg, he has refused to rule out the possibility of succeeding Maresca.

“There is a lot of noise, a lot of speculation, but as a coach if you get involved you fail. My job is here, I love this club,” Rosenior said in his pre-match press conference.

“I haven’t spoken to the players about it. No need, they are online and I had a few jokes. But we are focused on our work. The goal is to continue creating great things here.

“In life, there are no guarantees. You never know what tomorrow will bring. I just do my job.

“There’s already been some speculation. I don’t want to guarantee how long I’ll be here, but I’m having fun here every day. I plan to continue doing that for as long as I’m here.

“I love this club, but I can’t guarantee anything. Nobody can.”

Chelsea will be led by interim manager Calum McFarlane, their under-21s manager, for Sunday’s match against Manchester City.
