The price of a PS4 copy of the relatively obscure Star Wars racing game, Revenge of the Star Wars Racershas increased significantly in recent days due to the use of the game in the latest PlayStation 5 jailbreak, Eurogamer reports. The PS2 game was originally released in 2002 and was ported to PS4 by Limited Run Games. in 2019. Its role as a key ingredient in the jailbreak process was announced on December 31.
Interested jailbreakers need Runner’s Revenge jailbreak PS5 firmware 12.00 due to bug in game’s Hall of Fame feature, says Eurogamer. The bug allows new code to be injected into Sony’s console, and since the PS5 is capable of loading and reading PS4 discs, Revenge of the Star Wars Racers is an easier method to remove the jailbreak. Commercial versions of games are a common way to perform exploits and hacks because, unlike digital copies, they cannot be directly patched.
While the PS4 version of Revenge of the Star Wars Racers was available anywhere between $14.99 has $37.50 when it was originally listed for sale, used examples are currently listed for up to $411. on eBay. Sellers are understandably trying to capitalize on the game’s new position in the jailbreak meta and increase the price accordingly. Of course, it helps that there are only a small number of copies circulating.
As the company name suggests, Limited Run Games releases old games in limited quantities as collectibles. The company only made 8,500 copies of Runner’s Revenge by own dataso the game is already rare in a sense, and now expensive to start while there is interest in the PS5 jailbreak.
