DOGE says it terminated 55 federal contracts worth $1.6 billion in 3 days

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) said Friday that federal agencies have terminated or reduced 55 contracts over the past three days, with a combined cap value of $1.6 billion, representing $542 million in savings.

DOGEwhose name refers to the high-profile involvement of Elon Musk, was launched during the first days of the presidency. Donald TrumpThe federal government’s second administration is part of a broader effort to reshape federal spending and the bureaucracy.

Although Musk has since withdrawn from the project, elements of the DOGE framework stay active in federal agencies.

In an article on X, the ministry wrote: “Contracts updated! Over the past 3 days, agencies terminated and delineated 55 unnecessary contracts with a cap value of $1.6 billion and savings of $542 million.

The post lists several examples, including what it describes as “a $47 million project.” Department of State. a program support contract for “Africa/Djibouti, Somalia armored personnel carriers and crew of the Somali National Army” and “a $19.5 million HHS IT services contract for support to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in the design, creation, updating, maintenance and archiving of online communications.” »

DOGE also referred to “a DoW of $151,000” education contract for services for the “Director Leadership Development Program – Partnership Course to be held at Northwestern University,” according to the message.

A screenshot shows a contract related to Somalia, listing professional program management support under a federal services code and identifying the country of origin of the service as Somalia. The contract description refers to support related to armored personnel carriers and crews of the Somali National Army in Djibouti and Somalia.

A second screenshot shows a US-based IT management support services contract, categorized as IT systems design services. The description describes the work of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences focused on maintaining and managing online communications, including websites, web pages, mobile tools, and social media platforms.

The DOGE message did not provide additional details on the original contract award date, the amount of funding already obligated or spent, or the agency actions that produced the savings figure cited in the message.

The announcement comes amid increased scrutiny this week on several government-funded Somali child care centers in Minnesota, accused of fraudulently collecting millions of dollars of taxpayer money.
