In isolation, this may not mean anything. In context, this is now part of a larger perception problem. While his elite rivals compete in long camps in crowded gyms, Garcia’s preparation seems informal and controlled. Structured less like camp and more like content.
“Ryan Garcia doesn’t even look like he’s preparing for a championship fight @RyanGarcia. You’re slowly pissing me off,” Hitchins wrote on X.
Hitchins’ irritation is not accidental. He has been open about his plans to move up to welterweight in 2026, with Garcia considered one of the money fights down that path. This path depends on whether Garcia is relevant. Seeing a potential future opponent appear relaxed with their preparation is bound to be memorable.
There’s also an added layer of irony. Barrios recently partnered with Joe GoossenGarcia’s former coach. While Garcia posts controlled workouts at home, his opponent prepares under the guidance of a Hall of Fame level boxing trainer, in a traditional gym environment built around repetition and structure.
It was not explained why Garcia chose to train at home. Some fans believe this reflects his superstar status and his desire to avoid constant attention. Others see it as another example of a fighter relying on his profile rather than his process.
When a title fight approaches, optics matter. Hitchins is not the only one to notice the contrast.
