President Donald Trump issued a targeted warning to Venezuela’s new leader on Sunday, suggesting serious consequences if she continues to resist US demands following the US-led operation that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
In an interview with The AtlanticTrump said Delcy Rodríguez would “pay a very high price, probably higher than Maduro” if she failed to “do the right thing,” adding that his administration would not tolerate what he described as her categorical rejection of U.S. intervention.

Defending this approach, Trump said: “The rebuilding there and the regime change, whatever you want to call it, is better than what you have right now. “It can’t be worse,” he added.
The White House did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
Trump’s remarks follow a stunning pre-dawn announcement Saturday that U.S. operators had led a mission to capture Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

Speaking at a news conference at Mar-a-Lago, Trump said a U.S.-appointed team “lead Venezuela“until the political leadership of the country is stabilized.
He also promised the return of the United States energy investment to the cash-strapped Latin American country that has the world’s largest oil reserves.

Trump defined his foreign policy approach, according to The Atlantic, through what he described as a modernized version of the Monroe Doctrine, the 19th-century policy opposing European colonial influence in the Western Hemisphere.
Trump called his approach the “Donroe Doctrine.”
