Rainbow Six Siege players are facing what looks like another security meltdown.
According to Ubisoft’s service status page for Rainbow Six Siege, connectivity is degraded on all platforms and there are outages noted for authentication, in-game store and for matchmaking.
Social Media Player Report being flooded with notifications saying things like: “We wanted to let you know that 6,7676767 of your reports led to sanctions” or have been suspended for “67 days due to harassment”. In other cases, users posted notifications regarding just need to be started from the game without mention of the numbers 6 or 7 (except the “Six” in Rainbow Six).
So while there is currently no certainty as to the nature of this attack (if it is an attack at all) or the identity of its apparent perpetrators, it is probably safe to say that someone with brainrot is having fun in the guts of the game.
As of this writing, the situation isn’t as bad as it was about a week ago, on December 27-28, when Ubisoft pulled the plug on the game completely after attackers took over and raised hell. However, a second series of outages occurring only a week after the first is far from optimal.
By the time the game went back online on December 28, after fixing the previous issue, Ubisoft’s statement on X said “Investigations and corrections will continue over the next two weeks.” Apparently their investigation did not reveal all possible vulnerabilities, because here they are again.
Rainbow Six appears to primarily be releasing PR updates about Gizmodo has contacted the company for information on the nature of these issues and whether the game is indeed under another attack, and to find out what steps the company could take to remedy the situation. We will update if we receive a response.
