Darren Fletcher takes charge Manchester United for the first, and perhaps only, time this evening when they travel to Burnley.

Fletcher was asked to replace the under-18s coach to oversee the first team until an interim manager was appointed. The intention is then to appoint a full-time successor to Ruben Amorim at the end of the season.

Amorim was fired on Monday after a difference of opinion with United director of football Jason Wilcox.

His final match in charge was Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Leeds. United in sixth place in the Premier League table.

It’s been a turbulent time at Old Trafford but they can at least look to the future with optimism.

The same cannot be said of Burnleywho return to the Championship unless they can string together a miraculous set of results.

The Clarets have accumulated just 12 points from 20 games and Nottingham Forest’s victory at West Ham last night means they are now nine points from safety.
