If you think that 12.9-inch iPad Pro is slim at 5.1mm, make no mistake. HAS CES 2026I came across a tablet that was only 3.1 mm, 2 mm less than the thinnest device currently sold by Apple.
Tucked away at the back of CES Unveiled, a mini-launch event to the main event, is an Android-based tablet called Paper from a company called Haining Toall Technology Co., Ltd. At first I thought it was an external display or even a dummy tablet, but no, a rep told me it was a whole tablet.

The main selling point of paper is its thinness. To achieve its slim profile, most of its components are crammed into a section on the left rear of the tablet. The ports – mini HDMI and two USB-C ports – are also stuck there. This bump is also used to grip the tablet with one hand. Because the paper is very thin and the edges surrounding the screen are also very thin, there’s really no way to comfortably hold the lightweight (400g) device. So the handle-like design works well.

This is not a new idea either. Sony Xperia S Tablet from 2012 had a similar design.

What I don’t know is almost everything about the specs. The Chinese company representatives and the translator had difficulty understanding what I was asking and gave me vague answers like “it’s a Chinese innovation” or “because of miniaturization” when I asked them how they made the device so thin or specific specifications on the front camera and battery life. I was able to confirm that the Paper’s screen is AMOLED. And the touchscreen seemed responsive enough when I tapped and swiped on it.
Oh, and they also told me the paper cost $1,500. Yes, one, five, zero, zero. That’s a lot of money for a tablet from a brand that almost no one has heard of and about which there is very little information online.

Alas, this is a common thing at CES. Sellers come from all over the world to present their innovative products, but don’t always have answers to curious media.
As for whether the Paper is currently the thinnest tablet in the world? Maybe? I don’t know of any thin tablets. But correct me if I’m wrong.
