Reminder of the confirmed compositions for the round of 16 of the CAN with Mohamed Salah

Egypt recalled its big players, including Mohamed Salah, for the clash against Benin.

Mohamed Salah and Egypt will try to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations against Benign this afternoon.

The Pharaohs made 11 changes to their starting XI for their final group match, having already secured top spot in Group B. It ended in a 0-0 draw against Angola.

Benin’s progression to the knockout stage was more complicated, qualifying as one of the best third-placed teams after winning one and losing two of their matches in Group D.

Gernot Rohr’s side are priced at 9/1 with some bookmakers to cause an upset, but the German was in an optimistic mood when speaking to the media yesterday.

He said: “Egypt are a top opponent but thanks to the group matches we played we have gained some experience on how to defeat such an opponent. We know we are the underdogs in this match but that does not mean we do not have the ambition to play a good match and qualify.”
