Minecraft Snapshots are known for introducing major features and changes as well as bug fixes or improvements, and the first release for 2026 did not disappoint. Along with updated resources for baby mobs and gameplay improvements, players can now create name tags and rename blocks of their choice in Minecraft 26.1 Snapshot 2.

Players will be able to craft name badges using 1 paper and 1 any metal nugget, such as gold or iron. Simply place them diagonally as shown above to get one of these items. Once obtained, it can be used to rename monsters, items and blocks.

Previously, players could only obtain name badges in the world by generating loot from chests, fishing, or trading with the Librarian. The ability to craft the item makes it a major feature for players who like to give custom names to their favorite pets or items in their world. As the year has just begun, players can expect more exciting features and updates.

Besides the ability to create name tags, 26.1 Snapshot 2 also brought major overhauls to the textures and models of baby mobs, giving them an improved look. The release also made changes to the JVM, allocating 4 GB of RAM by default instead of the previous 2 GB.
