Don’t sleep on ‘MAD,’ one of the craziest sci-fi manga available today

In an effort to inspire people to check out new series before it becomes unfashionable to pretend you were on the ground floor before they exploded in popularity, we decided to feature a manga series that we previously recommended under the microscope and highlight MADa crazy manga – and honestly one of the best sci-fi series around.

MADthe first serialized manga of creator Yusuke Otori, is essentially what Extraterrestrial: Earth it would be like a manga with Jujutsu KaisenIt is action feats and The man with the chainsaws a pensive serenity, and if society had absolutely no chance of retaining hope unless it submitted or adapted to its invaders. And hThe way people go about it is more complicated than clicking on a Xenomorph and hoping it plays well.

The story mainly follows Johna normal guy who keeps finding himself thrust into increasingly disastrous situations that drive him crazy. The first sees him finally arriving at a bunker called Jericho. This bunker houses a group of harnessed soldiers who offer him refuge from the omnipresent danger of aliens. Unfortunately, Jericho looks a lot like the military hideout that Cillian Murphy found himself in. 28 days later.

You see, everyone they take into their bunker is immediately imprisoned, with their only chance of survival being to eat the alien remains and pray that they survive or die a slow, agonizing death. Not to mention the failed baby factory nonsense that Jericho has among its jerk heads. All of this is orchestrated by Jericho’s square-jawed and obviously crazy leader, Leon. It’s a real neurotic piece of work that the show showcases, both his menace and what a loser he is without the powers to back him up.

For a long time, MAD doesn’t has many other assets in addition to its manga covers which clearly pay homage to American-style film posters and all of them. “Stranger encounter Kaiju #8 principle: humans can also become beasts. That is, humans smart and lucky enough to kill an alien, eat its flesh, and survive the gene-altering transformation.

But the series really began to gain momentum beyond its entertaining premise when it left the confines of the Jericho sex cult’s militaristic bunker and showed how the rest of its dystopian world made sense of life among a pack of quadrupedal aliens stalking the night like jackals.

MAD also has the particularity of being hosted on Manga Plus, one of the least boring manga reading apps there, with a comments section full of people eager to see what new bi-weekly chapter updates will inevitably lead to one of its sets even crazier about their fate in this hellish world seemingly devoid of all hope.

At the time of writing this article, MAD is beginning to blossom into a series that rises above its referential sales pitch as it fully fleshes out its world and characters, making people worth rooting for. Or, in Leon’s case, they see their reward. So if you’re in the mood for a rather funny and atmospheric sci-fi manga about killing aliens, becoming aliens, and finding hope in a hellish landscape, MAD is a manga to read.
