Dean Henderson is fast becoming a firm favorite with Crystal Palace fans, not only for his performances on the pitch, but also for his down-to-earth generosity off it.
After playing a starring role in last season’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City – a historic moment which saw Palace lift their first major trophy – Henderson was once again the hero of the Community Shield clash against Liverpool.
In front of a lively crowd at Wembley Stadium, the England international goalkeeper made crucial saves in the penalty shootout, denying both Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott. His exploits helped Oliver Glasner’s side win the trophy and start the new season in style.
But Henderson’s goodwill doesn’t stop there.
After the match, he made a surprise visit to a local pub where he posed for selfies with fans. In a generous gesture, he reportedly left a £1,000 note, inviting Palace supporters to have a few drinks on his behalf.
“Legend. I totally understand this club. Well done,” one fan wrote on Instagram alongside a selfie with the goalkeeper.

One fan, however, walked away with arguably something even more valuable than a few drinks and a selfie.
After the penalty shootout victory, Henderson accidentally left his water bottle near the goal posts. There was a cheat sheet around him detailing Liverpool’s penalty tendencies – including correctly indicating how Mac Allister and Elliott would track their saved efforts.
This bottle found its way into the hands of one lucky supporter, giving them a certified piece of Crystal Palace – and Wembley – history.
