The Argentina defender was punished for his conduct after being sent off against Liverpool.
Tottenham captain Christian Romero was handed a further one-match suspension and fined £50,000 for his conduct during his team’s defeat to Liverpool last month.
THE Football Federation has confirmed a new sanction following a regulatory hearing into the Argentine defender’s actions following his late sending off from the match.
Romero admitted he was accused by the FA of “acting inappropriately by failing to leave the field of play promptly” after being sent off in the 93rd minute of Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat on December 20.
He received a second yellow card for sending off Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate after being fouled, having been booked in the 66th minute for dissent.
The central defender was also said to have behaved “confrontational and/or aggressive towards the referee” following the incident.
After reviewing the case, an independent regulatory commission imposed a further one-match ban as well as a £50,000 fine.
Romero has already served the automatic one-match suspension resulting from his red card, missing Spurs’ 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on December 28.
Earlier in the season, he was also suspended for Tottenham’s 2–1 defeat to Fulham on November 29 after accumulating five yellow cards.
An FA spokesperson said written reasons for the latest sanctions would be published in due course.
