Man United eyeing Oliver Glasner and Thomas Tuchel

Manchester United are internally discussing five main candidates to take over as permanent manager of the club next season.

As first reported here for the daily briefingI understand that Old Trafford chiefs are particularly keen on Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner.

Glasner is currently considered the favorite, with one source telling me: “Manchester United were really impressed by what Glasner did at the Palace. As things stand, he is the big favorite.

However, there could also be other big names to watch out for, as Man Utd won’t rush into a decision and appear ready to evaluate their options.

Manchester United’s best managerial candidates, including Thomas Tuchel

Another particularly tempting option for United could be England manager Thomas Tuchelbut the problem is that this summer he will focus on the World Cup.

The German tactician will not necessarily be available after the tournament and would likely arrive late at Old Trafford anyway due to England’s commitments.

Others to watch will be former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, although Manchester City look more likely, as well as Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna.

Who is NOT in the job at United?

Despite the reports, I’m told that PSG manager Luis Enrique is not currently a name being explored by MUFC.

Things could of course change, and some fans might be surprised that such a strong candidate is not considered as an option, but perhaps the Spanish tactician already has something else in mind.

Enrique is expected to leave PSG this summer, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

With such a strong CV, he surely won’t struggle to land a top job, but for now, United are more likely to pursue players like Glasner and Tuchel.

But until then, discussions remain ongoing with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick over the interim role until the end of the season.
