The actress revealed to Alex Cooper on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast that a relationship she formed with a 30-year-old man when she was just 18 inspired her new novel “Half Her Age.” McCurdy’s book was based on the life of a 17-year-old, Waldo, who was in a romantic relationship with his teacher, Mr. Korgy.
She explained that they had a relationship on one of the sets she worked on. According to her, “I was just working,” she revealed. “I think I was 18 at the time he started working on the show. I think so. I’m not sure. It’s possible I was younger, but I was most likely 18.”
She remembers them staying on set while everyone else was gone and bonding over her favorite movie and music before things progressed until he came to her apartment.

“I don’t know what it is because I was raised Mormon and because I was homeschooled. He explains to me what it is and I’m like, “That looks type of weird. I’m nervous to do this.‘ He says, ‘I’ll walk you through this.'”
She described it as a difficult entry point to any real form of sexual activity, as she felt the constant pressure to be who her previous girlfriend was, even though she was absolutely lacking in experience.
“There were lines like, ‘I have to know that my needs are going to be met. That’s something that – I’m a man in my 30s – and it’s something that I’m used to, and it’s something that I have to know,'” McCurdy added.
