Lawrence may not be the biggest fan of dogs right now after her pet Chihuahua, named Princess Pippi Longstocking, bit her 3-year-old son Cy, whom she shares with husband Cooke Maroney.

At a screening of her new film “Die My Love” in New York on Wednesday, the Oscar winner attended a question-and-answer session during which she was asked whether she prefers dogs or cats.

The “Hunger Games” actress then explained that “dogs became so scary to her” after she began raising Cy and another baby she welcomed with Maroney in 2024, following the sad incident.

According to Lawrence, she now sees dogs as a “threat,” adding that she eventually had to take her pet back to her parents.

Actress jokes she wants to ‘wipe out’ all dogs

The biting incident appears to have taken an emotional toll on her, as she went further to share that it made her want to “wipe out all the dogs.”

“My son is getting into it, and it’s almost like I don’t recognize dogs right now,” she said. “I just see them as a threat. One of them bit my son, and that made me want to wipe out all the dogs.”

“I’m just like, ‘I’m going to eliminate you and your fucking family. You and your friends. I’m going to go to China and take care of your friends there. Anyone who looks like you is dead,” she continued.

In fact, she is now more interested in cats and is the mother of one named Fred.

“They’re so misunderstood,” she says of cats. “They’re assholes, and people who don’t like that about cats don’t understand that’s what’s so funny.”

Lawrence’s comments apparently triggered many dog lovers, who took to social media to criticize her.

“What a terrible person! She doesn’t deserve a dog!” one person wrote.

Another social media user defended furry animals, saying: “Dogs are not a danger to children unless you haven’t trained them properly or also taught children respect for the dog.”

“This is terrible,” one person said. “A dog is a living being with feelings. Don’t buy a dog if you plan to abandon it. Don’t leave the child alone with the dog. This makes me see her in a bad light.”

“It made me lose all respect for her,” added another. “If she had trained her dogs and kept them away from her son and her son was kept away from them, then there wouldn’t be a problem. If you weren’t prepared to take care of your dogs your whole life, you should never have had them.”

Amid the backlash, some fans defended Lawrence, with one saying, “Being a safe mom isn’t a bad thing. Nothing that could put my child in danger is welcome in my home.”

Another commented: “Some of these comments are not! I don’t understand why so many people put dogs above children. I’m a mom of 2, and we have a little dog, and we LOVE our dog. But as soon as I had my first born, I immediately had this instinct, it was very weird, and I had to really work to regulate it.”

The fan continued, “But at the end of the day, as much as I love my dog, I would choose my child over him any day.”

“People obsessed with dogs in the comments are scary. I would definitely choose my own child over a dog… Especially if they bite one. Protect your children!!!” » noted a third person.
