How to Double PoE2 Item Corruption

Double Corruption is a new crafting method in PoE2 added with the Fate of the Vaal update. Corrupting an item has been possible since the game’s release using a Vaal Orb. The process can make random changes to an item. For example, this is the only way to add another socket beyond the limit on all equipment or to enchant an item with a random affix. In hindsight, it can’t do anything either.

However, there are significant risks that the Vaal will do something. The process makes the item non-editable in any way, but PoE2 update 0.4 added ways to modify corrupted items, including double corruption.

There are two ways to double item corruption in Path of Exile 2, but the process for doing both remains the same. The first method is to use the “Locus of Corruption”. This is what you get for upgrading a Chamber of Corruption to level 3 in the Vaal Temple from the new League Mechanics.

The initial room setup will only allow you to corrupt an item once. However, using a Thaumaturge and a Sacrificial Chamber will upgrade the room to level 3 and spawn a new altar. Note that the process only works on corrupted items.

The second method is to use an Architect’s Orb. It’s a monetary item that does the same thing as the Locus of Corruption. You actually get the item in the same room. If you don’t want to or don’t have an item to bribe twice, the room lets you take change instead.

Double Corruption can add another enchantment to an item, making it stronger. However, like ordinary corruption, it also carries the risk of losing the item. There is a 50% chance that the process will destroy something you want to change.

It’s not as simple as using a Orb of Chancebut for a casual player, losing something worth tens or hundreds of Divines isn’t worth it. If you have a stockpile of them from Vaal Temple management, try using them on cheap unique items to get an idea of how often they destroy an item or modify it.
