George Clooney had a heartwarming reunion with the old EAST costar Noah Wyle at the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards on Saturday, January 10.
Wyle, 54, was chosen to present his longtime friend Clooney, 64, with the best actor (film) award for Jay Kelly at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles. The Hollywood Reporter shared images from the old EAST his bandmates sharing a hug as Clooney took the stage to collect his award.
As he approached the microphone, Clooney made a joke about the age requirements to win an AARP award. (The AARP Movies for Grownups Awards are given to actors 50 and older.)
“Well, thank you! Thank you AARP,” Clooney began. “I have to say, Adult Films just means, you know, old people.”
He then joked. “I realized now that the only way for me to win anything was to Timothée Chalamet is too fucking young! Put that in your pipe, Monsieur Timothée!
With Chalamet, 30, permanently out of the running at the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards, Clooney triumphed in the race for best actor (movies) Leonardo Di Caprio (One battle after another), Joel Edgerton (Form dreams), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon) And Dwayne Johnson (The smashing machine).
It was a great evening for the two elders EAST cast members as Wyle won Best Actor (TV) earlier in the series for his captivating portrayal of Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in The Pitt. Wyle was nominated against Walton Glasses of The White Lotus, Stephen Graham (Adolescence), Slow horses star Gary Oldman And The last of us‘ Pierre Pascal.
Clooney was chosen to present the award to Wyle. From the podium, he joked that AARP should create a “Sexiest Man Alive” list for people over 50.
“I would nominate Noah Wyle as the first guy,” Clooney said.

“We’re actually going to meet up the night before [the Golden Globes] as we give each other the AARP Awards,” Wyle said with a laugh. “I think [that] speaks more about the test of time.
Wyle was asked how it felt to have formed such a close friendship with Clooney in the years since they worked together on EAST. (Clooney played Dr. Doug Ross in EAST from 1994 to 1999 while Wyle played Dr. John Carter from 1994 to 2005.)
“I think [Clooney] That’s a lot of where I learned my lifelong gratitude,” the Pitt star explained. “He never, ever forgot where he came from and he never took anything he had for granted.”
Wyle continued: “Whenever you are there [Clooney]we can still see that the enthusiasm for the work, for the storytelling, has not diminished over the years. When I think of the two of us still doing what we love to do 30 years later, it’s like they haven’t caught us yet!
Clooney praised Wyle last summer, when he said Late Night with Seth Meyers that Wyle’s current medical drama, The Pittis “so good”.
“I have to say that we have been very good friends since [ER] – since we made the pilot for the series,” Clooney added. “He is simply the most honorable and talented young man, [which] I can say this because I am an old man. I couldn’t be happier with his success on the show. The show is simply magnificent, and he does a great job with it.
Thinking back to their EAST In recent years, Clooney recalled that he often had trouble remembering medical jargon in his dialogue, while Wyle “never had a problem.”
“He could always do it, and I hated him for it,” Clooney teased.
The pitt shares connective tissue with EAST beyond Wyle’s involvement. The five-time Emmy Award-winning series was created by R. Scott Gemmillformer supervising producer and writer on ER.
The Pitt season 2 is now streaming on HBO Max.
