Atletico boss Diego Simeone apologizes to Vinicius Jr after mocking the Real Madrid winger.

Diego Simeone is well known for his antics on the touchline, but he crossed the line against Real Madrid.

Atletico Madrid Boss Diego Simeone apologized to Vinicius Jr and described his mocking behavior towards the Real Madrid the wingman as “not acceptable”.

Simeone and Vinicius battled throughout last Thursday’s Spanish Super Cup semi-final, a match Madrid won 2-1.

The Argentine told Vinicius that Madrid were going to “get rid of” him, according to footage captured by Movistar, then cut off his ear as if to highlight the hostile reception given by the Jeddah crowd when the Brazil international was sent off in the second half.

Vinicius objected to Simeone’s actions and shouted a response before a mini brawl broke out between the two coaching teams on the touchline.

Simeone apologizes to Real Madrid star Vinicius

Speaking ahead of Atletico’s Copa del Rey clash with Deportivo La Corona tomorrow night, Simone told a press conference: “First of all, I would like to apologize to [Madrid president] Mr Florentino [Perez] and Mr. Vinicius for the incident they witnessed.

“Clearly it was wrong of me to put myself in that position, and I accept that it was clearly not acceptable.”

Simeone is renowned for his enthusiasm on the touchline and his Madrid counterpart was not impressed by his antics in Saudi Arabia.

After the match, Xabi Alonso said: “I don’t like what happened at that moment.

“I saw that El Cholo said something to him. For me, this kind of thing crosses the line of respect towards a professional colleague. I don’t like it when someone says things like that to my teammates. I always try to show respect to opposing players. Not everything happens.”

Madrid qualified for the final which they lost 3-2 against Barcelona yesterday.
