It’s official. Apple chose to work with Google, a long-time partner, to power AI features like Siri.
“After careful evaluation, we have determined that Google’s technology provides the best-performing foundation for the Apple Foundation models and we are excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for our users,” Apple and Google said in a statement.
The partnership confirms previous report on an agreement with Google. Neither Apple nor Google have confirmed the price, but previous reports indicate that Apple could pay Google around.1 billion dollars to access its AI technology. The deal also comes after Apple spent time testing rivals’ technology.like OpenAI and anthropogenic.
The multi-year partnership will involve Apple using Gemini models and Google’s cloud technology for future core Apple models. The agreement is not exclusive, according to a source close to the matter. Apple has historically focused on vertical integration, relying on its own hardware and software.
The iPhone maker faced many difficulties public chatter criticizing After its AI efforts, particularly its assistant Siri, it lagged behind its competitors. That’s not to say that Apple hasn’t quietly built powerful foundational models. The company released the first versions of Apple Intelligence in 2024, which adds AI to existing operating system functions such as photo search and notification summarization. Apple has also focused on privacy with the deployment of AI, with much of the processing done on the device or through tightly controlled infrastructure. Apple says it will maintain these privacy standards throughout its partnership with Google.
The company’s strategy resulted in a subtle, sometimes invisible, sometimes felt resentful form of AI – one that doesn’t have the same wow factor as ChatGPT or Gemini. It also fails to deliver the kind of Siri overhaul that many users expected.
Apple has delayed rolling out its “more personalized” Siri voice assistant several times, but a spokesperson told TechCrunch that an upgrade would be coming this year. Previous reports indicate that the revised version of Siri is expected to launch in the spring.

Between 2021 and 2022, Google paid Apple approximately $38 billion to secure default search locations.
In December 2025, Judge Amit Mehta issued his final reparations on the case, which include prohibiting Google from entering into exclusive default agreements like the one it entered into with Apple “unless the agreement terminates no later than one year after the date of its conclusion.”
