New England’s Grand Island Casino was the victim of an attempted crash and a false bomb threat, sparking an investigation by local police.
On Sunday, January 11, the Grand Island Casino in New England received a call claiming that several bombs had been placed throughout the venue. The casino reported the incident to the Grand Island Police Department, who discovered after an investigation that it was a swatting call.
Officers responded to the scene and did not find any explosive devices or firearms, although the premises and surrounding facilities were evacuated as a precaution. Working with casino security, authorities determined the threat was false, based on evidence from casino security video and an on-site audit.
According to the police reportinvestigators later determined that the anonymous caller had used a third-party system to impersonate another phone number.
“There is no active risk to the public,” the police statement said. “The Grand Island Police Department takes all reported threats seriously and will continue to investigate crash incidents, which divert emergency resources and can endanger the public and first responders. Anyone with information relating to this incident is encouraged to contact the Grand Island Police Department.”
