Shawn Porter changes his Teofimo Lopez vs. Shakur Stevenson prediction

Two-time welterweight world champion Shawn Porter has changed his prediction ahead of Teofimo Lopez’s showdown with Shakur Stevenson later this month.

Stevenson has been somewhat serene throughout his professional career, with a dull tone and low-yield decision win over Edwin De Los Santos being his only truly non-dominant showing across 24 fights and three weight divisions.

Now, the Newark southpaw looks to conquer a fourth weight class, as he takes on WBO welterweight world champion Teofimo Lopez in a clash between 135-pound and 140-pound kingpins that has the boxing world talking.

Last month, in anticipation of the battle, Porter gave Stevenson a 60/40 advantageadmitting that we saw no flaws in his “game” while López showed fragilities.

However, on The PorterWay Podcast‘Showtime’ revealed that he is now starting to lean towards Lopez, believing that ‘The Takeover’s activity in the fight could be enough to score a decision victory.’

“I think there are more possibilities for Teofimo Lopez to win than for Shakur because Shakur is so entrenched in who he is, and I love that, top to bottom, but it’s going to be so hard to get him out of who he is.

“On the other side, Teo can take the defensive route, he can go towards [a style] where he wants you to at least walk towards him. Shakur will plod forward, very defensively, and Teo also has the ability to be leaping, in a situation where he can come out with big right hands, loop left hooks and jump with punches.

“I like to think it’s 50/50.”

“We might be in a situation where these two guys are kind of moving through the rounds, but Teo is finding the moments, to steal moments every round and steal rounds, and win on the scorecards, just because he did just a little bit more.”

Lopez-Stevenson will take place on Saturday, January 31 and will be supported by two other world title contests on the undercard.
