Delhi Police arrest three, seize cash in illegal gaming raid

Police in Delhi’s Kalyanpuri arrested three people and seized cash linked to an alleged illegal gambling operation.

The Kalyanpuri East District Special Police Headquarters raided a suspected illegal gambling operation in a public place. Three men were arrested, found “engaging in illegal gambling,” according to the police report. Cash and illegal betting equipment were also seized as part of the raid.

The raid took place on January 9 after the East District Police received information that illegal gaming was being carried out near Trilokpuri Park in the Kalyanpuri area, close to a public toilet. After the information was verified, a police team raided the spot, finding and arresting Deepak Kumar, 35, Govind, 26, and Mohammed Amir, 34.

Raid in Delhi leads to arrest of three men

All three reside in Delhi. Kumar is suspected of managing and manipulating cash stakes for the illegal gambling operation, Govind of accepting bets and retaining betting slips, and Amir of coordinating with illegal gaming participants and recording bets. The games are believed to have taken place in a public place in an attempt to avoid suspicion.

“The accused would gather in a public place to avoid suspicion, where they would conduct illegal gambling between local participants by verbally accepting bets, recording the details on paper and plastic slips, and collecting and circulating cash wager money on the spot,” the police report states.

A total cash amount of Rs. 12,090 ($150) was found and seized from the scene, along with other gambling-related materials like betting slips and a mobile phone. Further investigation is still underway.

Operators of an illegal gambling house in Delhi could face imprisonment of up to six months, a fine of up to 1,000 rupees ($11) and potential confiscation of any money and assets linked to the illegal operation. This comes after an initiative in India to crack down on illegal gamblingboth online and offline.
