Chipotle has decided to distance itself from the billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman after donating to a fundraiser to support the ICE agent involved in the fatal shooting of a Minneapolis woman.
The fast-casual restaurant chain specializing in burritos, tacos and bowls took to the social media platform Threads on Monday to issue a one-sentence statement clarifying that “Bill Ackman is not affiliated with Chipotle.”
Chipotle has moved forward with this post in response to a viral post on Threads that called for a boycott of Chipotle and falsely claimed Ackman owned the company in a post that said, “Don’t eat at Chipotle. The owner just gave $10,000 to the man who killed Renee Good.”
Ackman’s hedge fund, Pershing Square Capital Management, disclosed a 9.9% stake in Chipotle in 2016, and the billionaire played an active role in revamping the company’s strategy but reduced his stakes over time before exiting the stake late last year, a move Chipotle revealed during an earnings conference call in November.

The controversy linking Ackman to Chipotle surfaced after visitors viewed a GoFundMe page set up for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent involved in the case. fatal shooting of Renée Nicole Good in Minneapolis, he realized that a $10,000 donation to the fund had been made by William Ackman.
Following speculation over whether it was the outspoken entrepreneur who made the donation, Ackman himself took to social media to confirm that he makes the donation and explained that he had intended to do the same for a fundraiser for the property, but had not been able to do so in time.

“The entire situation is a tragedy. A police officer doing his best to do his job and a protester who probably did not intend to kill the officer but whose split-second actions led to his death. Our country is stronger if we work together to solve the complex issues that tear us apart,” Ackman wrote.
