Khawaja’s family targeted after Bondi attack

Usman Khawaja’s wife Rachel Khawaja shared disrespectful remarks towards her family. However, the Australian the cricketer is yet to react to these comments.

On December 14, a mass shooting took place on Bondi Beach in Sydney. The terrorist attack left 15 dead and many seriously injured. Two gunmen opened fire on people celebrating Hanukkah in broad daylight.

“They got worse”

Since the attack, Usman Khawaja was the target of horrible comments involving his family. Khawaja belongs to a Muslim community, as do the two armed men. Khawaja’s wife posted a screenshot of the nasty remarks also aimed at the couple’s daughters.

“I’ve put together a small sample of some of the comments we’ve received over the last week,” she posted. “I’d love to say this is new, but unfortunately we’ve always received these kinds of messages. But of course they’ve gotten worse.”

Some comments targeted their daughters with hateful labels such as “future school bullies” and “terr***** cancer blood.” Others told the family to “go home” to Pakistan.

“It is more important than ever that we continue to come together and stay united,” Rachel added. “Whether it’s fighting anti-Semitism, Islamophobia or racism, we should tolerate nothing.”

Khawaja’s comment after the attack

Usman Khawaja previously condemned the attack, sharing an image from his initial statement on Sunday along with a brief caption. “To the entire Bondi and Jewish community. Two horrific crimes in two years. Truly devastating news from Bondi today,” accompanied by a broken heart emoji.

“Lives senselessly lost, families broken, the Bondi community traumatized. There are more than words that break hearts. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.”
